REPU

REPU stands for Research Experience for Peruvian Undergraduates. It is like a REU, research internships for undergraduates in USA universities, but with the sole purpose of complementing Peruvian undergraduates' education. REPU is currently a non-profit.

The REPU program connects outstanding Peruvian undergraduates with Peruvians pursuing graduate education abroad. The Peruvians host the talented undergraduates in their universities and set up all the needed requirements for a research assistantship for a period of three months. The majority of the REPU alumni pursue a Ph.D. overseas with admission letters coming from Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Oxford, Purdue, Berkeley, Columbia, Yale, and many other top-ranked institutions worldwide.

I myself am a REPU alumnus, from the nanotechnology branch. I was part of the first nanoREPU back in 2013 at Purdue University and my mentor was Luis Jauregui. Thanks to my connection with REPU, the year after went to McMaster University with the aid of Edson Bellido. After finishing my undergraduate I accepted Princeton University's admission offer for my Ph.D.

Since I became an alumnus I have actively supported the REPU operations, since it continues to operate thanks to the volunteering of their alumni. These have been my active roles supporting REPU:

  1. CV and personal statements revision of 200+ undergraduates.
  2. From 2016-2018, I led the admission of the Physics branch securing internships for 5 undergraduates, and all of them are currently pursuing graduate studies.
  3. From 2019-2021, I led the admission of the nanotechnology branch securing internships for 6 undergraduates.
  4. I have mentored 10 undergraduates during their Ph.D. applications, i.e., editing personal statements, CVs, etc. All of them have successfully started graduate programs.
  5. I initiated a monthly talk program, with 11 speakers, where outstanding Peruvian Ph.D.s discussed their journeys and different career paths after their doctoral studies.
